October 5 — International Teachers Day

61

Today teachers are celebrating their professional holiday.

Sea-news.az recalls that on October 5, 1966, at a conference jointly organized by UNESCO and the International Labour Organization, the first international document defining the conditions of teachers’ professional activity—”Regarding the Status of Teachers”—was signed.

Since 1994, October 5 has been established by UNESCO as World Teachers’ Day. This date is also included in the United Nations’ system of international days. The main objective of celebrating World Teachers’ Day is to focus attention on the status of teachers in society and the vital role they play in shaping education and social development.

Currently, World Teachers’ Day is celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide. Additionally, national Teachers’ Day is observed on various dates in several countries. For instance, teachers’ professional holiday is celebrated on March 8 in Albania, May 15 in South Korea, September 11 in Argentina, September 28 in China, October 1 in Uzbekistan, and November 24 in Turkey.

In independent Azerbaijan, this date was officially established on October 5, 1993.

A teacher is not merely an instructor of knowledge, but the practitioner of a noble profession who shapes future generations and contributes to the development of their worldview and moral values.

On this special occasion, we warmly congratulate all Azerbaijani teachers, wishing them robust health, success in their activities, and immense pride in the educated, patriotic, and virtuous students they raise!

Happy Teachers’ Day, dear teachers!
