US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States exercises full control over maritime traffic passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Sea-news.az reports speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said: “We literally control the Strait of Hormuz. We have total control.”
According to him, Iran’s ability to intervene in the situation is limited. Trump noted that as one possible scenario, Iran could lay mines in the strait. However, he stated that such a move could cause certain problems, as shipowners are unwilling to take risks when navigating through the Strait of Hormuz.
The US leader expressed confidence that Washington will soon achieve its stated objectives in its confrontation with Iran. Trump recalled having previously stated his belief that a deal with Iran could be reached after the elections, or even before them.
