The United Kingdom has carried out the launch of a heavy torpedo from an uncrewed underwater vehicle for the first time.
Sea-news.az reports that this was published by the “iPaper.”
According to the publication, the test launch was carried out last week using the “Excalibur” uncrewed underwater vehicle, which has a payload capacity of approximately 19 tons. The vehicle is capable of covering distances of up to 1,000 nautical miles and operating autonomously underwater for up to five days.
The torpedo, whose specifications have not been disclosed, was developed by the United States and Australia. It is intended for use against ships and submarines.
The test was conducted jointly by the United Kingdom and the United States. According to “iPaper,” this marks the first time both countries have launched a torpedo from an uncrewed underwater vehicle instead of a crewed submarine.
