The average occupancy level of the water reservoirs supplying water to Istanbul has dropped below 40 percent for the third time in September compared to the indicators of the last 10 years.
Sea-news.az reports that, according to the statement by the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ), the average occupancy level of the water reservoirs stood at 38.03 percent on September 18. It is reported that approximately 330 million cubic meters of water remain in the reservoirs.
The amount of precipitation falling into the water basins has also decreased this year.
Experts attribute the depletion of water resources to the decrease in precipitation, hot and dry weather conditions observed during the summer months, increased evaporation, and rising water consumption.
Meteorologists emphasize the importance of sufficient and regular precipitation during the autumn and winter months for the recovery of Istanbul’s water resources. In their opinion, water conservation also plays a vital role in protecting existing reserves.
