A special unit of the Finnish police has conducted the “Marsec EU26” exercise focusing on the seizure of civilian ships in the Baltic Sea.

Sea-news.az reports this information citing the Yle broadcasting company.

Special units of the Finnish police and border guards participated in the exercise. During the drill, law enforcement personnel practiced helicopter-borne boarding operations onto civilian vessels.

The exercises were observed by European military experts and representatives of defense agencies. The Polish Border Guard and the French Navy also participated in the exercises with their vessels.

Finland justified the holding of the “Marsec EU26” exercise as a necessary demonstration of preparedness to prevent incidents similar to previous cases of damage to energy cables in the Baltic Sea.
