Ammonia leak at the port

An ammonia gas leak at an industrial complex facility located in Jordan’s port city of Aqaba has resulted in multiple worker injuries.

Sea-news.az reports citing statements made by local administration commissioner for environment and public safety Nidal Al-Awran to the Al-Mamlaka television channel, that at least 11 individuals suffered from varying degrees of mild to moderate asphyxiation and respiratory irritation.

“Several of the injured are receiving immediate medical attention at the industrial complex’s on-site clinic, while others have been safely evacuated to municipal hospitals,” the commissioner stated.

Specialists noted that the incident occurred during repair and rehabilitation work on faulty pressurized equipment. Residual ammonia gas trapped within the device prior to servicing triggered a localized leak, prompting immediate emergency response protocols.
