Oman is set to host a multilateral meeting bringing together the foreign ministers of Iran, Iraq, and member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to discuss the unfolding crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.

Sea-news.az reports that an official statement released by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the upcoming summit.

According to the announcement, discussions will center on reviewing the outcomes of bilateral negotiations held between Iran and Oman regarding the designation of safe navigation routes for commercial shipping within the strait.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei reaffirmed his country’s stated commitment to ensuring the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He noted that Tehran remains keen on fostering mutual trust and bolstering regional cooperation among neighboring states. Baghaei also announced that an understanding has been reached between Iran and Oman concerning the establishment of temporary shipping corridors in the area.

At the same time, the Iranian official criticized ongoing U.S. military activities in the region, asserting that guaranteeing absolute maritime security in the strait remains unfeasible as long as Washington continues its military and economic pressure.

Analysts underscore that the Strait of Hormuz serves as one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, vital to global energy transit and international seaborne trade.
