A dry cargo vessel named “Progress IV,” sailing under the flag of the Dominican Republic and owned by “Katriona Alliance” Ltd, has been struck by a drone while en route from the port of Sulina in Romania to the port of Tekirdağ in Turkey. Following a fierce fire, the ship sank.
Sea-news.az reports that Ilham Nasirov, chairman of the “Support to Azerbaijani Seafarers” Public Union, shared the information on social media.
There were 12 crew members on board, consisting of 4 Azerbaijani citizens and 8 Ukrainian citizens. All 12 crew members were successfully rescued by a coast guard vessel.
The report concluded with a safety appeal to seafarers: “May God protect our seafarers. Avoid working in high-risk regions. The greatest gain is returning home safe and sound to your family. Make every decision with this thought in mind.”
