Deepening crisis

Since August 22, the Armed Forces of Iran have prevented 30 vessels that failed to comply with established regulations from passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Sea-news.az reports that Iranian media released the information, noting that maritime traffic through the strategically vital strait can only be conducted via designated special corridors approved by the Islamic Republic of Iran. This process requires prior authorization and the payment of transit fees.

Reports indicate that before the outbreak of the war in January 2026, more than 1,500 oil tankers and 1,700 commercial cargo ships routinely traversed the Strait of Hormuz.

This drastic reduction in maritime traffic highlights the compounding strains on global supply chains and energy security amidst ongoing military measures in the region.
