The Japanese government plans to support the construction of alternative oil pipelines that will ensure the transportation of oil from the Middle East while bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.
Sea-news.az reports citing the NHK television channel, that this step will be included in the country’s new plan aimed at sustainable energy supply.
According to the reports, amid the situation in the Middle East, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi instructed the government in June 2026 to prepare a “Comprehensive Package” of measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of energy carriers. The government planned to approve this package on August 26 at a meeting dedicated to the implementation of the “Green Transformation” (GX) strategy, which provides for the transition to cleaner and lower-carbon energy.
Within the framework of the strategy, supporting the construction of alternative oil pipelines outside of Hormuz and diversifying sources of raw material procurement are envisaged. Additionally, the formation of oil reserves for the production of naphtha—a liquid hydrocarbon feedstock used in the petrochemical industry—is among the measures to be implemented.
