Iran has stated that U.S. adherence to the signed memorandum of understanding—specifically the implementation of provisions concerning the management of the Strait of Hormuz—is an absolute prerequisite for Tehran to resume indirect negotiations with Washington.
Sea-news.az reports this, citing the Tasnim news agency.
According to the agency’s sources, Iran’s official stance was conveyed during the visit of Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir, to Tehran:
“Washington’s return to the Islamabad agreement (memorandum of understanding) and the enforcement of its clauses, including Article 5 regarding Iran’s management of the Strait of Hormuz, is one of the Islamic Republic’s core conditions for the restoration of dialogue.”
It is noted that the Pakistani side is working to relay this position back to the U.S.
Reports indicate that during his meetings with the Iranian leadership, the Pakistani military chief did not deliver any threats or similar hostile messages from Washington to Tehran; instead, he focused on fostering conditions conducive to the resumption and continuation of talks.
