Strict transit rules introduced

Tensions regarding maritime security and navigation routes in the Middle East continue to escalate. Iran has announced that it will implement strict restrictions, heavy fines, detention, and even vessel confiscation mechanisms against commercial and cargo ships that violate established domestic shipping regulations while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Sea-news.az reports that the Shipping Control Administration of the Strait of Hormuz in Iran has issued an official statement regarding the matter.

Vessels that violate established maritime norms will face fines, detention and arrest, revocation of future transit rights through the strait, or outright confiscation. Shipowners and brokerage firms providing maritime services in the Gulf have been advised to review the “black list of rule-breakers.”

Other watercraft engaging in any logistic or commercial cooperation with vessels listed on the blacklist will also be automatically placed under sanctions. Shipowners wishing to be removed from the blacklist must submit a formal application to the relevant Iranian management authorities and present a special inquiry justifying the reasons for the rule violation.
