German companies are reporting mounting problems as water levels on the Rhine River continue to drop to record lows.
Sea-news.az reports this citing the Reuters agency.
Against the backdrop of another heatwave in Europe, the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) stated that water levels on the Rhine have sharply declined, causing cargo vessels to become stranded.
At the bottleneck near the city of Koblenz, the navigational water depth stood at 12 centimeters, which is lower than the previous minimum recorded in 2018 (25 cm). The total depth of the river is approximately 1 meter greater than the navigational depth.
To prevent vessels from running aground, there is a growing necessity to distribute cargo across multiple ships.
