Several service members aboard the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln have attempted suicide.
Sea-news.az reports citing the Military Times newspaper, that the aircraft carrier has been in service for more than eight months instead of the scheduled six, and the personnel do not know when they will be able to return home.
According to the newspaper, the USS Abraham Lincoln, with 5,000 sailors on board, began its military service in the second half of November. The ship’s duties include supporting U.S. military operations in the Middle East. The mission was expected to conclude in May, but the return date for the service members has still not been determined.
According to the relatives of the service members serving on the warship, several individuals attempted to throw themselves into the sea during their service. Excessive workload, exhaustion, and depressive states are cited among the reasons for the deterioration of the sailors’ emotional condition.
The U.S. Navy stated that the leadership of the aircraft carrier constantly monitors the psychological condition of the service members and is ready to provide them with appropriate psychological and medical assistance.
The agency declined to disclose the exact number of service members who attempted suicide or self-harm during the mission.
