The Government of Kazakhstan has allocated approximately $2.36 million from the state reserve for the environmental monitoring of the Caspian Sea and the equipping of specialized laboratories with modern equipment.

Sea-news.az reports that the allocated financial funds have been directed to Kazakhstan’s Caspian Sea Research Institute. The equipment will be used directly for conducting scientific research in the sea basin, as well as for strengthening the activities of hydrobiological and hydrochemical laboratories. Within the framework of the research program, the organization of 2 marine expeditions covering 21 stations and the conduct of regular environmental monitoring at 22 coastal points are planned.

Kazakhstan, together with other Caspian littoral states, is discussing an Action Plan on adaptation to sea level fluctuations and the protection of the ecosystem. The drafted document reflects the implementation of joint environmental measures among the countries of the region, the exchange of scientific data, and the coordination of research work from a single center.
