On the occasion of Caspian Day (Caspian Environment Protection Day), celebrated every year on August 12, the “Caspian Sea Action Week 2026” International Volunteers Week has been organized in Kazakhstan.
According to information provided to sea-news.az by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan, the project took place within the framework of the “Clean Kazakhstan” environmental culture development concept. Alongside delegations from Caspian littoral countries—Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, and Turkmenistan—ecologists, volunteers, scientists, and youth from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan participated in the events.
Experts from the Caspian countries exchanged experiences on protecting the sea’s unique ecosystem, applying modern environmental monitoring technologies, and strengthening scientific cooperation. The “Caspian Clean-up Challenge” international campaign was held in Aktau. Volunteers cleaned the coastline of waste and carried out sorting operations. Furthermore, more than 80 trees were planted and the “Friendship Alley of Caspian Region Volunteers” was opened, where a “Time Capsule” containing messages for future generations was placed.
Participants developed innovative projects aimed at protecting the Caspian ecosystem and presented them to an expert jury. An international volunteers summit was organized as the concluding event of the week. Within the framework of the summit, hackathon winners were awarded, and a panel session dedicated to the existing environmental problems of the sea was held.
