Traces of oil products posing an environmental threat have been recorded near the Atash beach located in the water area of the Caspian Sea in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region.

Sea-news.az reports citing the Kazinform agency, the first information about the pollution was received on August 8. In connection with the incident, specialists from the Mangystau Region Ecology Department immediately launched raids and environmental monitoring at the Atash beach and the adjacent marine area.

During the monitoring, samples of the polluted sea water were taken and sent for laboratory analysis to determine the chemical composition and origin of the petroleum products.

Ecologists issued an official warning to the crews of commercial, tanker, and support vessels operating in the Caspian Sea water area to strictly comply with marine environmental protection requirements and to refrain from discharging sewage and oil waste into the sea.

Cleaning and monitoring operations are ongoing in the area, and the situation is under the special supervision of the Mangystau Region Ecology Department.
