77 years have passed since the birth of People’s Artist Gandab Guliyeva, an outstanding mugham singer who rendered exceptional services to the development of our national mugham art.
Sea-news.az reports that the artist, distinguished by her unique performance style, powerful and impressive voice, made great contributions to the preservation and transmission of the rich traditions of Azerbaijani mugham to future generations.
Gandab Guliyeva learned the subtleties of mugham from Nariman Aliyev and Vahid Abdullayev. She received her higher education at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts between 1991 and 1996.
Operating as a soloist of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater since 1981, the singer created memorable roles such as Leyli, Asli (“Leyli and Majnun”, “Asli and Karam”), Arabzangi (“Shah Ismail”), Shahsanam (“Ashig Garib”), Gulbahar (“Galin Kayasi”), and the Singer Girl (“Vagif”).
She represented Azerbaijani mugham at a high level in Germany, Canada, Japan, France, Sweden, Turkey, Iran, and Iraq. The “Chahargah” mugham performed by the singer was included in the “Mugham Anthology” album released in France.
Engaged in pedagogical activities and nurturing a young generation of singers, the People’s Artist passed away on June 26, 2017.
