Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary of the UK’s opposition Conservative Party, stated that a French Navy vessel fired warning shots near the ship he was on in the English Channel.
According to sea-news.az that the politician shared this on his “X” social media account. In an interview with the BBC, K. Philp noted that the French military ship approached and fired 17 shots without any prior warning, and that this was intended to frighten them. The Sky News television channel stated that the British government has contacted the French side to ascertain the details of the incident.
The British MP accused France of not taking sufficient steps to prevent illegal migration through the English Channel. Notably, since 2018, more than 205,000 irregular migrants have crossed the Channel to enter the Kingdom. Although London and Paris signed a 660 million pound sterling agreement in April of the current year aimed at strengthening border control, tensions in the region persist.
