Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov and Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov familiarized themselves with the activities and infrastructure of the Aktau International Sea Commercial Port within the framework of the meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation.

According to sea-news.az that Aktau Port, Kazakhstan’s largest maritime hub and one of the key facilities of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, spans an area of 44 hectares and has an annual cargo handling capacity of 12 million tons.

Oljas Bektenov stated that the government pays priority attention to the development of maritime infrastructure. He emphasized that dredging works at Kuryk Port have been completed, and a similar project at Aktau Port will be finalized by the end of the year. This will allow fully loaded vessels to enter the port and increase throughput capacity.

The report also notes that the combined capacity of Aktau and Kuryk ports is 22 million tons per year. In recent years, container transit through these ports has increased 3.8 times. At the same time, the volume of Uzbek cargo transported via this route registered an increase of more than 60 percent last year.
