Oil tanker mined in strategic strait

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has stated that three oil tankers attempted to navigate a mined route in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, and one of them hit a mine and caught fire.

According to sea-news.az that Press TV broadcasted this information, citing a statement from the IRGC.

The statement noted that after one of the tankers exploded, the other two vessels turned back and left the strait: “The Strait of Hormuz is under our control and will remain completely closed as long as the US continues its aggressive activities in the region.”

Recall that a day earlier, the IRGC had announced that the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz had been mined. In response, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) denied Iran’s claims of controlling the strait and stated that commercial vessels were freely using the route.
