The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has denied reports circulated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) regarding full control over the entrance and exit of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to sea-news.az that CENTCOM issued an official statement on the matter.
The statement emphasized: “This information is false. Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz. The international maritime route remains open for transit despite the threats and attacks of the IRGC.”
The statement noted that the IRGC attempts to force vessels to pass through the strait only via routes determined by itself. However, commercial vessels continue to use the strait with the support of the US military. According to the information, since early May, US forces have ensured the safe passage of more than 900 vessels through the maritime route.
Recall that earlier, the Iranian military command had stated that the southern route passing near the coast of Oman — through the Strait of Hormuz — had been mined.
