The subsea cable to be utilized for the construction of the Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Line (FOCL)—a crucial component of the “Digital Silk Way” project executed by “AzerTelecom” which envisions the creation of a new digital corridor between Europe and Asia—has been brought to Baku.

According to sea-news.az the cargo was transported from Kazakhstan’s Port of Kuryk to the Baku Port via ASCO’s “Azerbaijan” rail ferry.

Details of the Logistical Operation

The large-scale and heavy cargo was brought to the Port of Kuryk by a convoy consisting of three specialized vehicles. Subsequently loaded onto ASCO’s rail ferry, the materials were safely delivered across the Caspian Sea to Baku and successfully unloaded at the port.

ASCO’s Partnership in the Project

Within the framework of this strategic project, ASCO acts as a partner not only in logistical transportation but also in the execution of maritime operations:

  • Survey Works: Previously, ASCO’s vessel “Turkan” participated in the geological and technical survey works along the marine route of the Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Line project.
  • Seabed Investigation: During that stage, engineering-investigation works of the coastal areas and the seabed where the cable will be laid were successfully carried out.
