Iran has announced plans to establish a new “security belt” stretching from the Strait of Hormuz to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea.
According to sea-news.az citing Iran IRIB news agency, the statement was made by Esmail Qaani, commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
“The timely and decisive actions of the heroic people of Yemen demonstrate the wisdom of the Resistance Front. If necessary, others will follow,” Qaani said.
Referring to Iran’s regional allies, Qaani stated that all members of the United Resistance Front would participate in efforts to defend the region’s frontiers and security interests.
The remarks come amid continued concerns over maritime security and freedom of navigation in key shipping routes linking the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea, and the Red Sea.
