The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has intercepted a vessel carrying 240 undocumented migrants believed to have departed from Haiti.

According to sea-news.az CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott stated that aerial patrol units detected an overcrowded boat heading toward U.S. territorial waters with approximately 240 people on board, most of whom were Haitian nationals. Authorities reported that the vessel was at risk of sinking.

Scott emphasized that attempts to enter the United States through illegal maritime migration routes pose serious risks to human life and do not guarantee entry into the country.

U.S. officials noted that efforts to combat illegal migration continue to be strengthened. Earlier, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported that more than 900,000 undocumented migrants had been deported since January 2025.

The incident is seen as another indication of ongoing migration pressures in the Caribbean region and the growing number of people attempting to reach the United States by sea.
