Western defense industry companies are planning to deploy next-generation naval unmanned systems to support vessel escort operations and mine-clearing activities in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Financial Times, within the framework of international security initiatives, the United Kingdom is preparing to send autonomous mine-hunting systems produced by Canada’s Kraken Robotics to the region. In addition, underwater unmanned vehicles such as the “Seafox” developed by Germany’s Atlas Elektronik are also expected to be involved in the operations.
Experts say the main objective of these initiatives is not the complete neutralization of mines, but rather the creation of safe maritime corridors for commercial shipping and the gradual reopening of trade routes.
Industry specialists emphasize that the current approach focuses on establishing “cleared lanes” in high-risk zones to ensure the safe passage of convoy operations.
