Quarantine imposed on passenger ship

Around 1,700 passengers aboard the cruise liner “Ambition,” which arrived in Bordeaux, have been placed under quarantine after a man on board died from gastroenteritis caused by norovirus.

The information was reported by the newspaper Sud Ouest.

According to the publication, the deceased was a British national over 90 years old. Following the incident, around 50 passengers and crew members fell ill, prompting authorities to isolate everyone on board.

The ship had sailed from the Shetland Islands to southwestern France, with stops in Belfast, Liverpool, and Brest (France).

A medical team was deployed to the vessel to collect biological samples for testing. By order of the prefecture, passengers and crew were prohibited from disembarking until test results are available.

The report emphasizes that the outbreak is not related to hantavirus. Instead, it is likely a gastroenteritis outbreak, potentially facilitated by the ship’s closed environment.
