A recent report prepared by Deep Current has revealed that despite years of investment in digitalization, freight operations still remain heavily dependent on manual labor.
According to the study, 52% of logistics operators repeatedly enter the same data into different systems, while 49% must switch between five or more platforms to complete a single workflow.
The report emphasizes that many artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives fail because the technology is not directly integrated into operational processes. Currently, 61% of logistics teams still rely on email and spreadsheets such as Excel for operational communication, while only 29% of internal operations are fully digitalized. Documentation errors cause delays in 57% of cargo shipments.
According to Deep Current representative Tamim Fannous, the core issue is not visibility, but the lack of connectivity between data systems. Although companies can identify delays in real time, the transfer and verification of information are still performed manually by employees, creating bottlenecks and slowing down operations.
The company believes that successful digital transformation requires direct integration of AI into day-to-day operations and stronger human-AI collaboration.
