Maritime freight transport in Azerbaijan up by 10%

Azerbaijan saw a 10% increase in maritime freight transport during the first seven months of 2025, Report informs, citing the State Statistics Committee.

From January to July, a total of 5.395 million tonnes of cargo was transported by sea—an increase of 489,300 tonnes compared to the same period last year. Oil-related cargo accounted for 48.2% of the total volume.

Cargo handling at the country’s seaports reached 7.9067 million tonnes, marking a 2% year-on-year decline. Of this, 6.399 million tonnes, or 80.9%, were classified as transit shipments—a slight drop of 0.8%.

As of August 1, the volume of goods remaining in seaports stood at 338,600 tonnes, representing a 3.4% decrease (or 11.8 tonnes less) from the previous year.

Overall, transport sector operators in Azerbaijan moved 136.9 million tonnes of cargo in 2025, with maritime transport accounting for 3.9% of that total.

Meanwhile, passenger traffic via maritime transport totaled 14,800 people during the reporting period, down 900 passengers or 5.7% from the same period in 2024.
