The main goal of the exhibition, jointly organized by the Port of Baku and Azerkhalcha, is to highlight the importance of both the art of carpet weaving and the preservation of lighthouses along the Caspian shores. At the exhibition, held on the eve of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in our country, carpets depicting eight lighthouses along the Caspian Sea, such as “Amburan”, “Absheron”, “Shuvelan”, “Chilov”, “Nargin (Boyuk Zira)”, “Lankaran”, “Sangi Mughan”, and “Kur Dili”, woven on the special order of the Port of Baku, are displayed and will continue until the end of the year.
In addition, 3 carpets belonging to “Azerkhalcha” OJSC – “Chalabi”, “Chalabi Barda”, and “Gasimushaghi” carpets as well as exhibits related to Azerbaijan’s maritime history, including items belonging to the Port of Baku are presented to the visitors.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Taleh Ziyadov, Director-General of the Port of Baku, gave brief information about the lighthouses, which are considered the maritime heritage of Azerbaijan, and brought to the attention of the participants that a book titled “Lighthouses” containing long-term research and facts has been prepared for the preservation of the history of this heritage. During the preparation of this more than 150-page scientific publication, documents from local and foreign archives were widely used. Speaking later, the Chairman of the Board of “Azerkhalcha” OJSC, Honored Art Worker Emin Mammadov said that the presentation of Caspian maritime heritage and rich carpet weaving traditions to both local and foreign guests in such different and interesting ways is always very effective, and provided information about the projects to be implemented by Azerkhalcha on the eve of COP29.
