US preparing for possible resumption of strikes on Iran

U.S. warships in the Middle East are preparing for a potential escalation of the conflict with Iran.

Sea-news.az reports citing The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), that the publication’s journalists embarked on the aircraft carrier USS George Washington in the Arabian Sea, observing flight operations and the replenishment of munitions.

A large shipment of weaponry, including land-attack cruise missiles and bunker-buster bombs, has been delivered to the vessels.

According to U.S. officials familiar with military planning, Washington is considering the possibility of a new round of strikes against Iran in the coming weeks. Should a relevant decision regarding weapons delivery be authorized, the U.S. could expand its military capabilities.

Bunker-buster bombs are designed to strike heavily fortified and deeply buried targets. Their delivery to the aircraft carrier may signal preparation for larger-scale operations, though it does not imply that a final decision on new strikes has already been authorized.

The Pentagon stated that its responsibility is to formulate military operational options and present them to the President.
