Large Oil Tanker Reportedly Hit by Explosion in the Strait of Hormuz
Sea-news.az reports that the information was released by the Fars news agency.
“Preliminary reports indicate that an explosion was heard in the Strait of Hormuz. A very large crude carrier (VLCC) was reportedly attacked while leaving the strait,” the report said.
It added that imagery from the Sentinel-2 satellite showed a dark discolouration behind the vessel’s superstructure.
Iranian officials have claimed that oil tankers struck mines in the Strait of Hormuz, while the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has said that vessels were hit by unidentified projectiles. However, UKMTO has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident reported by Fars.
