The United States fulfilling its commitments under previous agreements could allow the Strait of Hormuz to reopen for navigation and pave the way for the resumption of negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

Sea-news.az reports this was stated by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

According to the Al-Iraqiya television channel, the minister emphasized that Washington’s compliance with its former obligations would create favorable conditions for launching new rounds of negotiations and reaching a final agreement.

Araghchi noted that Iran’s “seven-day initiative” is aimed at continuing the diplomatic process on the condition that prior agreements are respected.

The minister also added that shipping restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz will remain in effect until a mutual understanding with the US is achieved.
