Sanctions could be eased if the Strait of Hormuz is reopened

The United States has delivered a new diplomatic proposal to Iran through intermediaries aimed at ensuring maritime security in the Middle East and easing strains within the oil supply chain. Washington has indicated its readiness to lift sanctions and economic blockades imposed on Tehran in exchange for the complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz for maritime trade and the cessation of attacks by regional proxy forces.

Sea-news.az reports citing the Al Hadath television channel, that this critical message from the U.S. was conveyed by Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir, during a special visit to Iran.

Washington is demanding the restoration of free and safe passage for vessels through the Strait of Hormuz—a vital artery for maritime transport—along with the halt of military attacks by Iran-aligned proxy forces in the region, including the Yemeni Houthis and other groups.

In return, the U.S. has emphasized its willingness to dismantle severe economic and financial sanctions against Iran, including the blockade on its energy sector. Asim Munir, who delivered the message to Tehran, urged the Iranian leadership to resume activities within the framework of a memorandum of understanding. The Pakistani side specifically noted its complete neutrality in the ongoing regional confrontation and U.S.-Iran tensions.
