The Water Transport Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), based on appeals received from the State Water Resources Agency’s State Control Service for Water Use and Protection, has carried out relevant measures to monitor compliance with legislative requirements in water basins.
Sea-news.az reports citing the MIA press service to AZERTAC, that investigations revealed violations of water legislation requirements in lakes located in the settlements of Buzovna (Khazar district) and Bulbulə (Surakhani district), the village of Mammadli (Absheron district), as well as along the banks of the Garachay river in the settlement of Yuxarı Agjakend (Goranboy district) and in the territory of the Delichay river (Balakan district).
Specifically, it was established that the aforementioned water basins were illegally filled with construction and demolition waste, household garbage, and solid and mixed rocks; soil and other materials were brought and dumped into their water areas; and earth-excavation work was carried out within the coastal protection zones. Furthermore, unauthorized excavation work in the water bodies altered the relief of the land and caused disruptions to the hydrological regime.
Criminal cases have been initiated under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code regarding the stated facts. Necessary investigative measures are currently underway to provide a legal assessment of the incidents.
