Yemeni Houthi forces have attacked a Saudi Arabian warship and four escort vessels in the Red Sea.

Sea-news.az reports citing Reuters, that this was announced by Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea on Telegram.

Saudi authorities have not yet confirmed this information.

The attack took place near the port of Mocha, located near the Bab el-Mandeb strait—a strategic maritime passage connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden that is of vital importance for international shipping.

Additionally, two sources within the internationally recognized Yemeni government told Reuters that the Houthis attacked a vessel in the Bab el-Mandeb strait with six missiles. According to their information, the ship had been out of service for over a year and was undergoing maintenance. It is presumed to have been empty at the time of the attack.

The Houthis justified the action by citing Riyadh’s actions against Yemen, having announced in July that they were imposing a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea. Saudi authorities have rejected these accusations.
