On the night of August 1, a container ship named “Yanina,” belonging to the “Fesco” company, which is part of the “Rosatom” group, sank in the Black Sea as a result of an attack by Ukrainian naval UAVs.
Sea-news.az reports that this was stated in an official announcement by Alexey Likhachev, the head of “Rosatom.”
According to Likhachev, the incident was recorded in the international waters of the Black Sea, approximately 130 miles from the port of Novorossiysk. It was possible to rescue all 17 crew members of the attacked container ship from the sea.
“This ship was an ordinary container ship sailing in international waters and carrying peaceful civilian cargo ranging from frozen food products to construction materials. Such an attack on a civilian cargo ship on an international maritime route is nothing other than an act of piracy and robbery at sea,” emphasized the head of “Rosatom.”
Against the backdrop of the intensifying naval confrontation in the Black Sea basin, the sinking of the civilian container ship has further increased risks regarding the safety of commercial shipping and maritime cargo transportation in the region.
