Today marks the tenth anniversary of the thwarting of the military coup attempt carried out by the FETO terrorist organization on July 15, 2016, in Turkey.
According to sea-news.az that the Grand National Assembly of Turkey established July 15 as “Democracy and National Unity Day” the day after the coup attempt, and the day is marked annually with commemorative events across the country.
Commemorative events and ceremonies honoring the martyrs have been planned throughout the country to mark the anniversary of the military crime that took place on July 15, 2016.
It should be noted that nearly 9,000 military personnel were involved in the coup attempt, utilizing 35 aircraft, 37 helicopters, and 246 armored vehicles, including 74 tanks and nearly 4,000 light weapons. On that bloody and dark night, 150 civilians, police officers, and soldiers who fought to bring Turkey to the light of day were martyred in Ankara, 99 in Istanbul, and 2 in Muğla. The military coup attempt went down in Turkish history as the fifth failed intervention, following those of 1962, 1963, 1969, and 1971.
The thwarting of the coup attempt, orchestrated by Fethullah Gulen and his followers, fully exposed the terrorist organization that had been networked within state institutions in Turkey for many years.
During the 2016 coup attempt, Azerbaijan stood with Turkey with all its might. Expressing his deep concern from the very first moments of the event, President Ilham Aliyev clearly stated his support for the Turkish state and the legitimate government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The brotherly Turkish people have always highly valued Azerbaijans righteous and decisive position.
