Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of supplying clean electricity from the Caspian region to Azerbaijan, the country’s Energy minister Almasadam Satkaliyev said. This project involves the construction of a high-voltage underwater cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.

Satkaliyev added that preliminary discussions of the project with the Azerbaijani side have already begun, and such a step will also connect Kazakhstan with the energy system of the South Caucasus countries.

“This cooperation in the energy sector contributes to strengthening regional energy integration and joint development of energy resources,” the minister said.

Earlier, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov wrote in his article published in the official press that an initiative to organize the export of electricity from Central Asia to Europe is currently being evaluated between Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. He did not give details of this initiative, except that it is about “green” energy.
