Flour transshipment started in Makhachkala seaport for the first time

The Makhachkala Commercial Seaport for the first time began transshipment of flour. Dry cargo went from Dagestan to Iran, then they will be distributed to the countries of the Middle East, the press service of the port told TASS on Thursday.
“Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port (MMTP) has started transshipment of flour. After loading at the berth of the dry cargo harbor, the Adrina ship with a new export cargo today headed to the south of the Caspian Sea – to Iran,” the report says, TASS reports.

It is noted that there are more than 2,300 tons of flour on board the dry cargo ship. The first test batch weighing more than 1,000 tons was sent on the dry-cargo ship Sepehr Artin at the beginning of the week. In the near future, several more ship shipments will be transported from the port – each with 3-5 thousand tons of flour.

“Flour in transit through Iran will go to the countries of the Middle East, in particular to Iraq. Exporters operating in this region are interested in increasing the volume of these food products,” Rustam Kerimov, Acting Director General of the Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port, is quoted by the press service.

After establishing the technological process of shipment, the volume of flour transshipment in the future, according to Karimov, may be 25-30 thousand tons per month.

Earlier, in an interview with TASS at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, said that the authorities of Dagestan, together with the Federal Property Management Agency, are working out the conditions for the privatization of the Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port with a potential strategic partner. According to him, an opportunity has been found to attract a strategic partner, with whom it is planned, among other things, to develop container transportation. The port is currently owned by the Russian Federation.
