It is necessary to increase the number of transit routes in the Caspian – representative of the Iranian-Russian Chamber of Commerce
Jalil Jalalifar, Deputy Chairman of the Joint Iranian-Russian Chamber of Commerce, told Trend this on Saturday.
According to him, this can bring countries no less income than selling oil. This year, the transit of goods across the Caspian has increased. So far, this growth is not considered significant compared to the existing potential. For example, the trade turnover between Russia and India is about 15 million tons per year, which indicates that there are great opportunities for transit.
Jalalifar also noted that 13.5 million tons of cargo can be transshipped in the Anzeli port of Gilan province in northern Iran per year. Other ports of Iran on the Caspian Sea operate 30 percent less than their potential.
According to him, the Iranian Caspian Shipping Company recently signed a contract for the purchase of three vessels. She is forced to purchase used vessels, as a new vessel costs more than $10 million. If the construction of the ship is financed on the basis of a leasing form, then it will take 12-15 months, so Iran itself must build ships for routes in the Caspian Sea.
