Organized jointly by Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC (Port of Baku) and the Institute of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ARTI), SABAH program’s Masters students (specializing in Logistics and Transport) and teaching staff at the Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) have visited the Port of Baku at Alat.

During the visit, arranged as part of the practical part of the training course titled “Maritime transport and port logistics”, the participants got acquainted with the operating principle of the terminals in the port of Baku.Besides, the participants were told of the General Cargo Terminal and rules how to handle breakbulk, containerized and bulk cargoes at this terminal. They were also informed about the Ro-Ro terminal and the process of loading and unloading self-propelled vehicles onto the Ro-Ro ships and the ferry terminal and the process of loading and unloading railway wagons into the ferry vessels at this terminal. In the end, lecturers fielded questions from the students.

Notably, specialists from the port’s Training Center often conduct training courses for SABAH program’s Masters students under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Port of Baku and ARTI. Unlike other courses, students here are able to apply the theoretical knowledge in practice by visiting the port. The participants in the course of this workshop heard a variety of topics, such as “A brief history of maritime transport all over the world, including in Azerbaijan, “Information and statistics on the Port of Baku, as well as ports in the Caspian Sea, Turkey, Europe and Russia”, “The International Conventions and Regulations”, “The explanation of terms and abbreviations used in maritime transportation”, to name a few.
