The validity of identity documents and certificates of Azerbaijani seafarers has been extended.

As a consequence of the unceasing COVID-19 pandemic, a momentous decision has been made in an effort to ensure the seafarers discharge their responsibilities uninterruptedly.

In line with the decision, the validity of Azerbaijani seafarers’ identity documents, certificates of seafarers issued as per the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers and other relevant documents has been extended until 31 March 2022.

Subsequently, the International Maritime Organization, Port State Control and Flag State Authorities, Azerbaijani seafarers, ship owners, shipping companies, manning/crewing agencies and other individuals concerned have already been given notification by the State Maritime and Port Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.

In order to apply for the extension of the validity, relevant manning/crewing agencies, shipping companies, or seafarers shall send the following documents in addition to the appropriate application to the email of the State Maritime and Port Agency – [email protected] :

  • an official letter from the concerned crewing agent, shipping companies, or seafarers stating the reason for the extension;
  • a written statement or official issuance from the port or immigration Authority that disembarkation is not allowed in the wake of the current circumstances;
  • a copy of valid employment contract.
