POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Subsea Services Project Engineer

KEY ROLE

  • Requires the incumbent to utilise their extensive experience in manufacturing and/or fabrication to monitor and validate workflow routing processes, in the manufacture of subsea structures – e.g. PLEM’s PLET’s, PMA’s, FTA’s and SSIV’s.
  • Support the subsea fabricator in the development of manufacturing processes for assembly and testing of subsea structures.
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators that will support the testing scope of complex subsea structures. Monitor and report against these metrics.
  • Review the engineering, detailed design drawings, specifications, shop drawings for accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Work with the fabricator to develop best practices to fabricate subsea structures to the design and quality requirements.
  • Work with the fabricator to maximise production efficiency by analysing layout of equipment, workflow and assembly methods.
  • Monitor and drive to completion all aspects of subsea structure fabrication from initial handling through fabrication, assembly, coating, mechanical completion, FAT/SIT (as appropriate), to preservation and loadout.
  • Provider of discipline-specific support and fabrication input for the preparation of subsea asset technical documentation.

BASIC SKILLS

  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of all facets of manufacturing processes, practical experience in a manufacturing environment for subsea structures.
  • Have an analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to identify deviations from standards.
  • Sound knowledge of HSSE working practices & control of work procedures.
  • Keen awareness the managing of behavioural based site safety programmes
  • Ability to perform effectively in a team environment, inclusive of demonstrating collaborative, cooperative, flexible, adaptable, respectful, and tactful personal characteristics
  • Excellent work and personal ethics that include trustworthiness and commitment.
  • Expertise in comprehending and interpreting reading relevant engineering drawings specifications, regulations and codes
  • Ability to understand logic-linked planning schedules (in P6 format or similar)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with contractor’s/line managers/ and supervision in English language (oral and written)
  • Working IT skills regarding MS Office software

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

  • ONC (Original National Certificate) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
  • Significant experience in Subsea Production Systems and Subsea Fabrication to support the testing of mechanical and subsea controls system.

Desired:

Over 15 years subsea experience.

EXPERIENCE

Track record of experience gained in similar international oil & gas topsides and/or subsea-related projects in a roles leading to development of the following skill sets:

  • Coaching in fabrication & assembly techniques of subsea structures.
  • Experienced in coaching and development of workforce nationals.
  • Experienced in subsea FAT and SIT execution activities.
  • Provision of engineering and fabrication support to the fabricator during FAT, SIT and SRT.
  • Familiar with fabrication process routing and planning.
  • Knowledge of work site and work group management of resources by activity
  • Resolution of technical issues at site level while liaising with engineering.
  • Employing motivation & techniques to enhance fabricator performance.
  • Substantial experience in a supervisory role or surveillance lead capacity over fabrication activities, lifting operations, mechanical completion, simultaneous operations (SIMOPS), permit-to-work (PTW) activities, and other construction related operations.
  • Substantial experience with effectively  interfacing and working together with owner/ contractor engineering & construction personnel and with multi-discipline site teams
  • Confident, creative, and energetic approach to addressing construction and progress-related site issues
  • Ability to perform effectively in a team environment, inclusive of demonstrating collaborative, cooperative, flexible, adaptable, respectful, and tactful personal characteristics
  • Ability to effectively balance work priorities between what is truly important and what is critical.
  • Very high level of expertise in comprehending and interpreting engineering & construction specifications, drawings, and other technical documents
  • Expertise in interpreting and analysing construction schedules
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES & OBJECTIVES

  • Assist with the preparation and review of assembly and test procedures.
  • Demonstrate HSE leadership by actively engaging the fabrication contractors with actions that contribute to delivering on BP’s HSE expectations
  • Actively participate in construction and fabrication Lessons Learned processes.
  • Participate in subsea discipline risk meetings
  • Participate in start of shift tool box talks on work site hazards
  • Assist with development of site query response from engineering contractor as applicable
  • Witness and approving site acceptance tests
  • Review and acceptance of contractor construction procedures
  • Review and acceptance of contractor procedures for fabrication, assembly and erection of various subsea components
  • Monitor contractor performance and highlight any defaults to line manager
  • Attend project meetings as required.
  • Participate in reporting construction process on against schedule and cost targets
  • Liaise with contractor’s subsea construction & supervisory management on relevant construction-related issues
  • Generate and/or compile reports as required
