Azerbaijan Leader in Gas Supplies to Turkey for Fourth Month in Row

Azerbaijan exported 5 billion 444.99 million cubic meters of gas to Turkey in January-June 2020, which is 23.5% higher than the same period last year.

As noted in the data of the Energy Market Regulation Council of Turkey (EPDK), in June, 917.6 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas were supplied to Turkey, which amounted to 46.09% of the total volume of gas supplies to Turkey (an increase in comparison with June 2019 – by 41 , 02%).

In June, Azerbaijan retained its leadership in terms of gas supplies to Turkey. In second place was Algeria, which accounted for 23.53% of all supplies, in third place – Qatar (13.16%), in fourth – Russia (7.86%).

According to EPDK, in March 2020 Azerbaijan took the first position in gas supplies to Turkey.

In general, in June, gas exports to Turkey amounted to 1 bcm 990.91 mcm (a decrease of 25.65% compared to June 2019).

At the same time, the share of pipeline gas accounted for 1 bcm74.14 mcm (53.9% of all supplies, a decline compared to June 2019 – by 47.1%), and the share of LNG – 916.77 mcm (46.1 % of all deliveries, an increase of 41.5%).

Note that in 2019, supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Turkey amounted to 9 bcm 584.78 mcm of gas (an increase of 27.3%).

Azerbaijani gas is supplied to Turkey from the Shah Deniz field within the framework of the Stage-1 and Stage-2 projects. Gas supplies under the Stage-1 project began on July 3, 2007, and in the framework of Stage-2 – on June 30, 2018.
