The Iranian defense minister, Brigadier-General Amir Hatami, has said that a new frigate will join the navy’s northern fleet in the Caspian Sea.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Wednesday, he added that the frigate belongs to Peykan family and it is expected to come into service within the next week.

Earlier on the same day, the navy unveiled its latest achievements during a ceremony in Tehran.

A digital autopilot for torpedoes, home-made fuel for torpedo engines, an unmanned boat, missile testers and a tactical vehicle were among the unveiled achievements.

The Iranian sources suggest that the country has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats and submarines.
