In the State Maritime Administration was held the Training Course on “Implementation of MARPOL Convention”

On 24-28 April of the current year in the State Maritime Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan within the Twinning Project “Support to the State Maritime Administration to Improve Liability in Maritime Transport in the Republic of Azerbaijan” was held the Training Course on “Implementation of the MARPOL Convention”.

The main purpose of the abovementioned Twinning Project is to increase the capacity of the State Maritime Administration in the implementation and application of liability procedures foreseen in the International Conventions concerning maritime safety and prevention of sea pollution in Azerbaijan in conjunction with the legislation of European Union.

The Spanish experts – Mr. P.Donis and Mr. J.A. Conde gave detailed information about the historical background and source of marine pollution, international legal framework for vessel pollution, the MARPOL Convention, its structure, rights and obligations, Annex I – Regulations for the Prevention of Pollution by Oil, Annex II – Noxious Liquid Substances in Bulk, Annex Ill – Harmful Substances Carried by Sea in Packaged Form, Annex IV – Regulations for the Prevention of Pollution by Sewage, Annex V – Regulations for the Prevention of Pollution by Garbage, Annex Vl -Regulations for the Prevention of Air Pollution and practical exercises were conducted about certification and documentation.

Representatives of the State Maritime Administration and Maritime Safety Center under the State Maritime Administration participated in the seminar.
During the last day of the training course provided information repeatedly overviewed and final exam has been arranged. At the end the course was evaluated by the participants and they were presented with certificates.
