The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a statement regarding two oil tankers striking sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Sea-news.az reports citing the IRGC press service, that the vessels attempted to transit the strait via an unauthorized, restricted maritime corridor without clearance from Iranian authorities. The crews had also deactivated their navigation and identification systems.
“A few minutes ago, two vessels struck mines and caught fire. One vessel violated navigation rules while moving east of the Strait of Hormuz, and the other inside the strait itself,” the official statement noted.
