The foundation of the professional school was laid by Niyazi

August 20 marks the birthday of Niyazi Tagizade-Hajibeyov—the founder of the Azerbaijani national conducting school, USSR People’s Artist, Hero of Socialist Labour, and an outstanding composer and public figure.

Sea-news.az reports that today marks 114 years since the birth of the legendary maestro.

The establishment and formation of the professional Azerbaijani conducting school are directly linked to Niyazi’s name and his rich creative legacy. As the first interpreter and performer of numerous symphonic works, musical stage pieces, cantatas, and oratorios by Azerbaijani composers, he created a unique, original style in our musical history.

Many classical masterpieces sounding through Niyazi’s distinct interpretations—most notably Uzeyir Hajibeyov’s immortal opera Koroglu—are forever engraved in the golden fund of Azerbaijani music.
