Taking its economic interests into account, Iraq has requested Iran to provide it with special terms for oil exports via the Strait of Hormuz.

Sea-news.az reports citing the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that this was stated in a release from the press service of Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi following his meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf.

“Discussions were held on strengthening bilateral relations, activating friendship committees, and developing cooperation and joint coordination between the parliaments of the two countries,” the statement emphasized.

The Iraqi parliamentary speaker noted that Iraq is one of the countries suffering the most from the situation and events in the region. He called for taking into account the nature of the relations binding Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and for exercising special caution to ensure the protection of Iraq’s economic interests in oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz.

Ghalibaf, in turn, confirmed Tehran’s interest in expanding cooperation with Iraq—primarily in trade and economic spheres—as well as implementing previously signed agreements between the two countries.
